Dr. DeGroot's education and training in brief:
Dr. DeGroot is a native of Massachusetts. He got his medical degree at the University of Chicago in 1987. He was resident and Chief resident in orthopedics surgery at the Johns Hopkins hospital in Baltimore Maryland, completing his training in 1992.
He completed a postgraduate fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology and bone cancer surgery at the Harvard University - Massachusetts General hospital - Children's Hospital in Boston Massachusetts, and was a visiting professor in orthopedic oncology at the Rizzoli Institute in Bologna, Italy. He completed an observership in foot and ankle surgery at the Union Memorial Hospital - Johns Hopkins Hospital affiliated foot and ankle program in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. DeGroot is clinical associate professor of orthopedic surgery. He teaches orthopedic surgery, orthopedic oncology, and foot and ankle surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and at the Tufts University medical school.
He is an editor or member of the scientific advisory board of numerous significant educational websites, including Medscape - WebMD, Orthoteers, and Bone Cancer International, and is the principal author of the website Bonetumor.org, the most comprehensive on-line resource for orthopedic tumors. Dr. DeGroot lives in Newton, Massachusetts with his wife and four children.
