What to do the night before surgery

You should not eat of drink anything after midnight before your surgical day. If you need to take your medications, take the pills with sips of clear water only.

This means no coffee, juice, food of any kind, milk, or cream! Clear water only!

The strict safety policy of the anaesthesia department is to cancel the surgery if the patient has had anything except clear water for medications.(Dr. DeGroot supports this policy.)

The day of your surgery

Our surgery center is extremely efficient. On occasion, we can be ahead of schedule, and the surgery center will call to ask you to come in early - please be ready if you can. Don't forget to bring the xrays, scans or any films Dr. DeGroot has requested. Bring a friend or family member to help or drive you home. Allow plenty of time to get to the surgery center early.
